A New Era Begins: Join The Order of the Standard Table!

|Christopher Badell

Today is the big and official launch day for The Order of the Standard Table!

But if you happened to be poking around our brand-new webstore yesterday afternoon, you might have noticed something peculiar. While we were under the hood tweaking functionality, we accidentally made the Standard Writ live a whole day early.

And you know what? A handful of you amazing folks found it.

Without a single post, e-mail, or podcast episode about it from us, a few eagle-eyed community members read the description, decided they were all-in, and bought their Writs right then and there. Honestly? We are thrilled. It proves exactly what we already knew: our community is filled with passionate people who want to be a part of what we’re building, even when we hand them less information than we planned to!

To those first few trailblazers: we see you, we love you, and your incredibly early numbers on the Seating Charter are officially locked in. Thank you for helping playtest our new webstore and our launch of the Order!

First Things First: The Shipping Glitch

Because we accidentally soft-launched in the middle of testing, we caught a quick snag in the system thanks to our early birds. The webstore accidentally charged shipping on those initial Writs.

Let’s clear the air and set the standard right now: Active Diners do NOT pay shipping within the US.

  • The Rule: Once you secure a Writ, you are an Active Diner. That means free shipping on your orders — and yes, that absolutely includes the initial Writ itself.

  • The Wrinkle: The webstore should know that Writs are shipped for free. However, we don’t seem to have the functionality for an order that includes a Writ to make everything within that order ship for free, so we encourage folks to buy a Writ on its own, which should ship for free, then place a second order after that with everything else they want, which should then include the free shipping. We’ll be adjusting the text of the Writ in the store to explain that better, now that we know what we can and can’t make the webstore do.

  • The Fix: If you were one of the folks who bought a Writ yesterday and got hit with a shipping fee, good news! We are refunding those shipping charges today. You don’t need to open a support ticket; we’re already on it.

  • Additional Info: Going forward, from now on, when you order a Standard Writ, it’ll ask you what name goes on the Writ, as well as what e-mail address and Discord username you want associated with that Writ. We didn’t have that functionality in place yet, so we’ll be reaching out to those of you who already ordered Writs to get you into the Seating Charter and part of the Order’s Discord server!

So... What is the Order of the Standard Table?

Now that the cat is out of the bag, let’s talk plainly about what this actually is. No mysterious ritualistic jargon, no cryptic riddles — just me to you, explaining the how and the why behind the Order.

The origin of this idea comes down to a simple reality: we wanted a better, more meaningful way to connect with you, the people who keep our lights on and our tables full. We wanted to move away from the noise of standard social media algorithms and create a dedicated space for our most passionate supporters.

Here is how it works and why we built it:

Why We Built It

We wanted to create a true inner circle. The Order isn’t just a flashy mailing list; it’s a foundational community roadmap. It’s our way of knowing exactly who our core folks are so we can treat you like royalty, get your direct feedback on future projects, and build something lasting together. The GTG community has always been a big part of what we do here, and that same community has consistently asked us for opportunities to be more involved in a variety of ways. The Order of the Standard Table is here to provide those opportunities. And, in next week’s episode of the Play Greater Podcast, Paul and I talk more in-depth about the origin story of The Order of the Standard Table, so look forward to more details there next Thursday!

What It Means to Join

When you acquire a Standard Writ, you aren’t just buying a piece of paper; you are claiming your spot in the ecosystem.

  • You get your permanent placement on the Seating Charter.

  • You unlock Active Diner status, which waives shipping fees to the US on the store for one year.

  • You get direct, unvarnished access to what we’re working on, well before the rest of the world hears about it.

Step Up to the Table

The doors are officially open now (and this time, we’re doing it on purpose).

If you want more information, here’s our Launch Page, and we also have a page all about details of the Order and various Perk levels. If you want to join those early birds who jumped the gun yesterday, head over to the webstore and secure your Standard Writ. We’ll be working on refunding shipping to the first few folks today, as well as adding new Diners to the Order’s Discord server and making sure everything is working smoothly behind the scenes!

We have some incredible things planned for the Order, and we can’t wait to share the table with you.

P.S. Oh, also, there are a bunch of cool things on the official GTG webstore now, not just Writs! All of them will be shipping in August once we have them, but they’re finally available for order! Just remember to order your Writ first and separately, and then you’ll get free shipping on the rest!
