The Cannon of Conduct and Table Manners
The Most Right and Benevolent Order of the Standard-Sized Dining Room Table is built upon a singular foundational truth: the table is a sacred space of hospitality, fellowship, and play. To maintain the sanctity of our shared surface, all Diners must observe and exhibit proper Table Manners.
Whether gathering across a digital network or sitting shoulder-to-shoulder at a convention, your conduct reflects upon the Charter. The following rules govern our community.
General Ethos: The Rule of Hospitality
A Diner of the Order always ensures there is room for another chair. We approach games, discussions, and disagreements with the grace of a host and the respect of a guest. We celebrate competitive play, rigorous design debate, and intense storytelling, but we never allow passion to curdle into hostility. The goal is always to clear the surface, light the hearth, and Play Greater.
Decorum at the Digital Hearth (Discord & Online Spaces)
The digital landscape is noisy and fractured, but the Order’s digital spaces are curated to be an oasis of focus and camaraderie.
Permitted and Encouraged:
-
Constructive Critique: Debate game balance, card mechanics, and narrative continuity with evidence and respect.
-
Sharing the Vault: Displaying your physical Writs, hobby setups, painted miniatures, or custom table spaces.
-
The In-Joke Lore: Leaning into the language and rituals of the Order without alienating new members.
-
Community Organization: Using official channels to coordinate local meetups, digital games, or travel logistics for conventions.
Strictly Prohibited:
-
The Churn: Bringing the toxic habits of public social media feeds — outrage farming, sealioning, intentional flame-baiting, or systematic dogpiling — into the community.
-
Smuggling: Distributing or leaking confidential playtest materials, art assets, or information from our online spaces or monthly Order-only content to unauthorized public spaces.
-
Spamming and Solicitation: Flooding channels with self-promotion, unrelated commercial transactions, or repetitive digital clutter.
Protocol at the Physical Feast (Conventions & Physical Events)
When we gather in the real world — at booth spaces, convention events, tournament tables, or gatherings like The Annual Seating — our physical presence must mirror the high standards of the Order.
Permitted and Encouraged:
-
Welcoming the Stragglers: Inviting passing convention attendees to fill an empty seat at your demo table or open game.
-
Honorable Play: Celebrating game-changing plays, accepting defeat gracefully, and respecting the time limits of scheduled event slots.
-
Caring for the Material: Treating game components, booth infrastructure, and tournament spaces with physical care.
Strictly Prohibited:
-
Table Flipping: Literal or metaphorical tantrums over game outcomes. Aggressive outbursts, throwing dice, or destroying components will result in immediate removal from the space.
-
Disregarding Boundaries: Unwanted physical contact, stalking, or corner-trapping creators, staff, or fellow Diners for aggressive or non-consensual interactions.
-
Neglecting the Sensory Space: Tabletop gaming is a close-quarters hobby. Failing to maintain basic personal hygiene or creating an uninviting physical environment violates the comfort of the table.
The Broken Leg (Revocation of Diner Status and Permanent Ban)
Though the Stewards expect to never invoke this final clause, a table with a broken leg cannot stand. Certain heinous behaviors fundamentally compromise the safety and integrity of the Order. Engaging in any of the following will result in your name being permanently struck from the Registry, the immediate forfeiture of your active Diner Status, and a permanent ban from all GTG events and platforms.
The nuclear option will be triggered by:
-
Hate Speech and Harassment: Any targeted discrimination, slurs, or systemic harassment based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
-
Threats and Violence: Any explicit or implied threats of physical harm, stalking, doxxing, or real-world endangerment directed at any member of the community, staff, or public.
-
Theft and Fraud: Maliciously compromising the digital infrastructure of the Order, manufacturing counterfeit Writs, or engaging in financial fraud or theft targeting Greater Than Games or its community members.
Operational Enforcement
Decisions regarding permanent revocation are made at the sole discretion of the Stewards of the Order. If your Diner Status is revoked for a Broken Leg violation, all associated active perks (including webstore discounts, vault access, and event admission) are terminated instantly.
In accordance with the Charter, accumulated physical Writs hold no cash value, and no refunds will be issued for previous financial contributions.
